WHAT WE DO

"... that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: for all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had."

GOD'S WORD

Living Hope is currently partnered with numerous pastors in the Cap-Haitien area and supports them through pastoral conferences, financial assistance, and church building. Since 1993, Living Hope has constructed 21 churches. Our hope is to equip these faithful servants of God with all they need to effectively pastor their communities.

CLEAN WATER

As of May 2020, over 50% of Haiti’s rural population lacked access to drinkable water. Clean, safe drinking water is a necessity in preventing waterborne illnesses such as cholera. Living Hope has joined the fight for clean water in Haiti, building over 25 wells serving tens of thousands of people.

EDUCATION

Across Haiti, 4 out of 5 schools are private – meaning students must pay to attend. Still, although nearly half the population lives on less than $3 per day, primary school enrollment has been increasing and had reached 84% before the coronavirus pandemic forced many schools to close.

Despite rising primary school attendance, an average Haitian over 25 years old has less than 5 years of schooling, and around one-third of adults cannot read or write.

Living Hope has been working to close this education gap and increase accessibility to schooling. Since 1993, Living Hope has constructed 13 elementary schools. Rather than using an individual sponsorship model, Living Hope focuses on collective support. Practically, this means that funds go to schools directly, allowing them to use their local expertise to increase access to education and teacher support, ultimately having a broader reach than sponsorships allow for.

Additionally, Living Hope built the first high school in the area, greatly increasing access to secondary education. The high school currently serves 900 students and this number will double when the second floor is completed.
